Well the adventure has started. Mark your dates in the calendar.. At 6pm on March 5, 2005 I ventured out of the house on Gambel Oak Drive in the DC Burbs and made my way to Route 66... Not the old fashion Rt 66 the songs are about, but the more modern HOV lane packed road west out of DC.... literally into the sunset, hell I should have been on horse back. No wait on second thought, horse back to Arizona... now that's too damn long a trip.
Well this was a short day. My goal was just to hit the road and get things moving. So 236 miles later, I landed in Troutville VA (No I didn't make that up). It's right outside Roanoke VA.
My goal this trip is to survive the road and do my best to fit in where ever I stop. I don't "wanna be no fur-in-er"
So tonight to fit in, I ate at the Cracker Barrel. A well known Southern USA haunt. Good "country home cookin" as I'm told. I got the "specialty selection" Chicken Friend Chicken (I think if you say Chicken twice it makes it better), with so much "gravy" on it I didn't see the food. Now I say "gravy" cause this ain't no gravy my family dun ever made. I know wall paper paste that's thinner.
Oh well it's food and the veggies were good (Boiled corn and breaded okra of course). I made the mistake of askin' for "hot sauce" the girl was kind enough to tell me they ain't got none, but they have Tabasco... Oh this will be a fun trip ;-)
Well bedding down for the night at Holiday inn Express... I'll let you know if I feel smarter int he morning.
